Getting to Seabird Key
Most guests fly into the Miami airport and rent a car. Alternatively, flying into Ft. Lauderdale airport adds 45 minutes to your travel time. From Miami, Seabird Key is a 2 hour drive heading south on the Scenic Overseas Highway. If you’re lucky, you can arrange an early flight and enjoy the drive down at a leisurely pace.
From the Miami Airport:
Exit Airport(Green Exit # 4) going SOUTH on LeJeune Road (42nd Avenue). A few blocks on the right exit onto: Hwy 836 West. Follow 836 West which intersects the Florida Turnpike. Take the Turnpike SOUTH. The Turnpike terminates in Florida City and you will be on US1 going into the Keys. You can watch the mile markers, and Marathon begins around MM54, and Seabird Key is closest to MM53.
After crossing the Vaca Cut bridge you’re in Marathon. Look for 109th Street (traffic light), and turn right (you will see the Walgreen’s Drug Store). Go 1 block to 1st Avenue and turn RIGHT. Seabird’s mainland lot is just a few yards on the LEFT (11010 1st Avenue Gulf). You will see the bougainvillea blossoms bursting over the fence and the coconut palms will whip your car antenna as you pull into the lot. Seabird’s manager should be there to greet you and assist with your luggage out to the Island.
